The first night

I was having a great time being picked on at the party. It was bitter cold outside, but I didn't care. I blushed a scarlett red and darted out the door as fast as my legs could carry me. They were going to hear about my secret. My secret I hold near and dear until the day I die. As I sprinted to the large pine tree in the vast front yard, the wind was blowing cold ice air into my now pale face freezing the tip of my nose and my exposed ears. The sky was overcast and the music was vibrating the moist ground beneath my feet. When I finally reached this large pine tree, I threw my back against it and slid to the ground. A small smile pursed my lips as I thought of the good time we were having eating pizza, pigging out on sweets, dancing to music, sitting by the fire, and making fun of each other. My eyes darted to the smaller pine tree in front of me where I thought I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. In the yard, three pine trees stood like towering dominos. If one tree fell, the other two would come down with it. The bitter coldness of the air was starting to irritate my exposed legs as I was dressed in an elegant black gown. I had been in a banana costume but it got too hot for that. My hair was being whipped about in the cold wind. And as I turned my head toward the house again, my favorite song had come on. Thunderstyle. To this I got to my feet and I darted toward the back yard as fast as I could. Panting, I finally stopped and gazed at everyone sitting by the fire laughing and having a good time. My song was on and I wasn't going to ruin this moment by standing around. I darted back to the front yard and immediately caught my breath and held it when I saw a figure emerge from behind the pine tree I was sitting at. It appeared to be a little taller than me and also appeared to be wearing a large sweatshirt. My eyes began to water from the cold and I wiped away the tears for a brief moment. Within that moment it was gone. I gasped and suddenly shrieked with sudden excitement. Adrenaline pumped through my veins and I felt I could run a mile! A grin stretched across my now burning face as I began to power walk to that very tree. I was about to embrace this figure with warmth and comfort. Ironically it happened on the night before Halloween, but that never crossed my mind at that moment. I giggled freely as a flung my arms around that tree. The stars seemed to have danced above as the clouds cleared slowly and deliberately. I kicked off my shoes and danced freely under the stars, twirling in circular motions like nothing could go wrong. My gown bloomed like a flower and spun in a careful circular motion as I did, as slow as if the world were on slow motion. A faint scent of fresh bloomed Lavender bushes filled the air and drifted in my direction. I stopped spinning and inhaled deeply, then exhaling with a small smile. I closed my eyes for a second and imagined the wind carrying the Lavender flowers away in a spiral motion just above me until they enveloped me and carried me away to a new place where I could be free of all fears, of all anger, of all hate in the world. Then my song suddenly stopped and my eyes snapped open. I was on the ground feeling dizzy from spinning. A new song began to play and I gathered myself. I jumped to my feet and peered ahead. There it was again. Standing there watching me. I sighed heavily and swayed a little to the side, placing my hand on my head in attempt to keep myself level with reality. Having my eyes to the ground, I couldn't see what it was doing until I peeked through my eyelashes. He was smiling! That's right, it was a guy. He had a beautiful smile and his eyes spoke of warmth and comfort. I finally felt level enough to lift my head and there he was standing a foot from me. I caught my breath painfully then without being aware, I had jumped back, losing my footing and fell flat on my back. A soft, musical chuckle came from above as he leaned forward shaking his head. He again smiled that beautiful smile, outstretching his hand to me. Dazed, I took his hand and hoisted myself up. Brushing myself off, I made sure I didn't stare at all. It would have been absurdly rude of me to stare. His faint breathing and the way he stood there and stared at me threw the gasoline on the flames of curiosity. I decided I had enough confidence left to look up at his pale face and watch. Cocking my head sideways, I felt rather stupid as I smiled sheepishly. Who this guy was, I had no clue. But he didn't seemed moved at all by what just happened. His only interest was me. Feeling awkward, I turned my head to the left and stared at the tree. My hands and legs began to shake and my eyes watered. It was cold. And getting colder. I needed to mull things over. Why had I marched myself over to that pine tree and had that moment? And where did he come from and why was he in my front yard staring at me while I act all bashful on my Halloween party? I couldn't decide if now would be the good time to start asking questions. Scoffing, I looked up at his face again and searched for any type of emotion. There was none. It was like he was dead. But he couldn't have been. That smile couldn't have been fake. His deep brown eyes of promising warmth and comfort couldn't have been fake. The strength of his helping hand couldn't have been fake either. Shaking my head, I abruptly said in a tone I wish I hadn't,
"What do you want?" Staring, waiting for an answer, a change in expression. But nothing happened. A low rumble of thunder rolled across the now cloudy sky. An ice cold shiver crept down my spine and settled itself in causing me to shiver violently. His expression then turned concerned quickly and he took my hands in his. My mouth went suddenly dry and it became hard to swallow. The wind had to have been gusting at about 30 mph tops. All this time I couldn't look away. There was a feeling I had like this being was calling to me. Calling to me. Calling... My eyes started to feel like tiny lead weights were resting upon my eyelids. I didn't have a clue how much longer I had to endure this. I knew for sure I couldn't leave this man alone outside. My Aunt would freak if she saw a stranger standing in the yard with all the kids inside. Having this thought embedded in my brain, I looked up at him once again trying to process my emotions and thoughts. I jumped when he finally had spoken.
"I came for assistance." I gaped at him. I'm pretty sure I looked like a deer in the headlights at that exact moment. I knew it! He needed my help! But for what? Shaking violently still, I had to get this done and over with. Surprisingly, he still had my hands in his and that was the only exposed part that had been warm. His voiced replayed like a broken record in my head, his voice as soft as silk and as thick as honey. I was struggling to breath and my heart had been skipping several beats.
"Wh-What do you N-Need help W-With?" I said, my teeth chattering. Lightning cracked and skattered across the sky, illuminating the very sight around me. He was smiling again, but one more nervously. Looking at his surroundings he shook his head slowly.
"I couldn't tell you now. I'm afraid they might hear me." He said in a straight, flat tone. He wasn't as shooken up as his smile showed him to be. I understood immediately just from the look in his eyes. Something about them were not the same.
"Who are they?" I whispered into his ear. The thunder boomed louder this time, shaking the ground they were standing on. Rain began to fall hard from the sky as lightning streaked across it once more. Two things that shouldn't mix together is getting soaked in the freezing cold. She could see her breath in large clouds in front of her and fear trickled through her like blood on a fresh wound.
"I really have to go now." He whispered back, shaking his head. He scoffed, turning his head and staring straight at something I apparently couldn't see. I tried and tried but I saw nothing. Looking back at his face, it appeared he was considerably angry. Something was there and it was upsetting him. And I believed him. Just like I believed he was standing right here in front of me, holding my hands. Then suddenly like the crack of a bull whip, a flash of a bright white light sent both of us flat on our backs and in shock. He cried out in pain and I shrieked as tears streamed down my face. I stopped shaking and suddenly felt warm. Really warm. I was paralyzed for several minutes before I could manage to get myself to sit up. Everything went dead silent. There was no thunder, no rain, no lightning. The sky was clear and the stars were dancing above again. The music from the party continued as I sat there completely dazed. I looked around me and gasped in horror.
He's gone!
Sobbing, I scrambled to my feet and jetted for the house. Tears fell from my eyes missing my cheeks completely as I ran against the still existing rain. I burst through the front door and ran straight for my bedroom. I slammed and locked the bedroom door and threw myself onto my bed and screamed into my pillow. I was crying so much I failed to notice the sharp stinging pain on the right lower corner of my lip. I lifted my head from the pillow and there was a little splatter of crimson red blood. I cupped my mouth with my hand and inhaled deeply through my nose. I got up from my bed and unlocked the bedroom door with one hand; the other still cupped over my mouth. Breathing heavy through my nose, I darted across the narrow hallway into the bathroom across from my bedroom and flipped the lightswitch. I watched in the mirror as tears fell involuntarily from my eyes and into the large porcelain sink. I slowly removed my hand from my mouth. A wound in a spiral like shape crossed from my cheek and through my lower lip. I giggled as I examined the wound closer. This was going to be the reminder of my encounter with that older gentlemen. Someone of kindness at heart, warm comforting eyes, one who's voice was as smooth as silk and as thick as honey, and with a gentle smile that sparkled like the brightest star in the sky. A small smile again pursed my lips as the little lead weights began to take it's toll on my eyelids. I flipped the lightswitch and crept back into my bedroom. The folks were still partying but I was ready for bed. Wholeheartedly ready for the warmth and comfort of my bed. Smiling once more, I whispered into the still air of my warm bedroom "Goodnight." Then, I felt his smile imprinted on my heart as I slowly drifted into sleep.
